That's me, E Douglas Kihn, Doctor of Oriental Medicine
Edward and Helen started dating while working at Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, CA. She was a rivet-banger and he was a floor manager.
That's how I got my name "Douglas."
We lived in Lincoln, NE till I was 8,
when my family moved to Temple City, California.
I grew up a "child prodigy," an outsider looking in. With no siblings to compete with, I was given every encouragement and opportunity to excel
academically and intellectually.
Today, I am known as a person possessed of a phenomenal degree of
knowledge and skills. My life has been a constant search for
learning, novelty, and quality.
That's when I declared war on the world.
And that's when the panic attacks began. After a brief stint with the California Youth Authority,
I decided that crime does not pay.
These became my top priorities. I learned that human intelligence and evolution increase exponentially, At 20, I figured I had a chance of surviving into the Age of Unlimited Life Extension.
The panic attacks gradually stopped.
I've always loved the company of women. But I was never ready to sacrifice adventure, travel, and novelty for a wife, children, and a mortgage.
But hey! Times change, and so have I.
together with the Civil Rights movement and the Women's movement, convinced me that the capitalist system was and is dying. I became a socialist. I was drafted into the US army. Disgusted, I quit six weeks into boot camp.
In the early 70s, a history degree from UCLA wasn't going to pay the bills, so I studied land surveying. I worked in Michigan, the Rocky Mountains, and then a year in the
Amazon jungle of northern Bolivia.
Soccer and weight training at Pasadena City College introduced me to my athletic nature. I perform strenuous exercise daily,
because it feels good.
No one has a perfect childhood. Several years of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with trained counselors released me from
inhibitions and self-doubt.
I studied many languages, visited several continents and 35 countries, and learned a lot about myself and people of other cultures.
Saved no money.
At UCLA, my focus on the subject of "fascism" was for naught when I later read Trotsky's explanation at the local Pathfinder Bookstore. I joined the Socialist Workers Party, got jobs in industry, and became a political activist.
In 1984, I began my love affair at Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, CA. The theory and practice of Chinese medicine seemed so familiar and easy to adopt, probably because of its similarity to Christian Science. I earned a doctoral degree and became a Licensed Acupuncturist, maintaining a private medical practice for three decades. I also taught for many years at three acupuncture colleges in the Los Angeles area.
Accurate diagnosis, effective treatment plan, herbology, acupuncture, shiatsu massage, cupping, reflexology, moxabustion,
and lifestyle modification
Over time, prevention became more important for me than mere treatment. My business, website, and YouTube channel all feature the name and concept of "BodyTrust."
An accumulation of years of clinical and classroom experiences in one place. A handbook for Eight-Principle-based Chinese medical theory, written for today's health challenges.
Chinese medicine and Taoist philosophy are connected at the hip. I adopted both, and learned that problems and solutions are of equal value, just as
yin and yang are of equal value.
I began swing dancing in 1998 at the height of the neo-swing movement.
I went ape for it, became a local sensation,
and finally for the first time acquired a social life.
After the release of the film Gladiator, I became "Decimus Caelius Drusus" and joined Roman reenactment groups for film shoots. That led to membership in the Society for Creative Anachronism, an international club dedicated to bringing to life history before 1600. My second persona, "Drusus von Augsburg," became a Baronial Captain of Archers, a Roman javelineer,
and a European swordsman.
Two years of film school at Santa Monica College taught me the art of screenwriting. Noisy Crow Productions is the name of this venture.
Screenwriting is my present and future.
My father and I were inspired Dodger fans, but I never had the courage to play it as a kid. Now I am fulfilling that dream. Soccer revisited is my newest physical passion. Besides the benefits of learning new physical and mental skills, these team sports are medicine for my spirit.
