Toxic damp is classified as interior excess yin.
Toxic damp is an insidious roadblock to wellness.

Your nose, taste buds, stomach region, bowels, and everything else about your body will tell your otherwise confused mind when to forage for food, when to eat, what to eat, and when to stop eating. You just have to train yourself
to listen and trust.
The more overloaded your body gets with overeating and excessive nutrition, the pickier it becomes. It's no coincidence that obese people never feel hunger, and usually have a long list of foods they can no longer digest.
because BodyTrust is instinctive to all beings.

That is the sure path to wellness.
Spleen/pi is more closely aligned with your bio-medical pancreas,
although not synonymous with that either.
Spleen and stomach are represented in the earth element - late summer, contentment, color yellow, damp weather,, processing.
Spleen then processes and absorbs food and drink. A happy spleen is a hungry spleen is a dry spleen. Strong hunger indicates wellness - a clean and powerful spleen and digestive system, free of toxic damp.
They and many other toxic damp conditions indicate zero hunger and a weak, overburdened spleen. We call this weakness "spleen qi deficiency," the result of overeating.
Overeating prompts the spleen to search for places to store excess yin/nutrition for the long hard winter ahead, which for us, never comes. Fat cells are just food storage containers, after all. This excess yin, aka toxic damp, will also pile up as impacted fecal matter, unwanted growths, and hyperlipidemia.
to wellness coaching for restoring its smooth functioning.

Pathogenesis of Spleen Damp
By E Douglas Kihn, OMD
Some degree of toxic damp of the spleen occurs in everyone who lives above their Optimal Lean Zone. Overeating is the usual cause of spleen damp, and is most easily perceived by visually examining a person’s degree of excess body fat.
Humans need a certain amount of body fat for wellness and optimal health. The amount of body fat can be most accurately measured in body fat percentages, as well as one’s degree of hunger – an empty feeling in the stomach area that motivates and enables us to work for food. The numbers differ between men and women. When a man reaches 5-7% body fat and a woman reaches 7-12%, the spleen is dry and strong, hunger is sharp, and the body is cleared of all excess body fat, impacted fecal matter, unwanted growths, and cellular refuse that collects on the walls of the blood vessels. The Optimal Lean Zone is a worthwhile goal to aim for, but remaining slightly above it will also provide for a healthy spleen.
The consumption of food past one’s comfort level in the stomach area will burden the spleen/stomach and lead to the accumulation of damp. When a person finishes a meal feeling either full or stuffed, chances are good that excess yin will collect and that the size of the fat cells – food storage containers - will be increased. The body measures the density of food energy, gu qi, and lets the eater know right away when that limit has been reached. And not only in the stomach area but in the mouth as well. When the deliciousness factor begins to drop, spleen damp is ready to form.
When food is eaten past the comfort level, it clogs the digestive machinery. Its movement slows down and even stops, causing food stagnation. Constipation, flatulence, yangming heat, sensitivity to specific foods, and disorders of the skin and sinuses are typical symptoms of food stagnation. A spleen/stomach clogged with damp and stagnant food oftentimes has difficulty handling certain foods that, for a dry spleen, can be very nourishing. The most common of these are sweets, dairy, fats, meats, and grains. For a weakened, overburdened spleen, even something as mild as rice porridge could produce more damp.
Partially-digested food/yin excess can sit around in and on the body for years and decades, eventually transforming into a toxic waste dump/damp heat. Low-grade inflammations and chronic infections can indicate toxic food stagnation and damp heat. Excess yin forms the basis of the chronic accumulation of bloated fat cells, excessive serum cholesterol, fecal sludge, and unwanted growths such as tumors, cysts, fibroids, and bone spurs.
Spleen damp is sluggish, stubborn, heavy, and obstructive. It can result in watery discharges from any orifice. It will block the free flow of qi, blood, and body fluids, causing edema, chronic pain, general fatigue, and brain fog. Damp will also clog the entry portals of normal body cells and develop into diabetes 2. Without nutrition, these cells can eventually die of starvation.
Spleen damp can transform into phlegm in the channels and upper body. Sinus problems, watery asthma, wet skin diseases, dizziness, even deafness and blindness can be caused by phlegm. Insubstantial phlegm will block the heart holes and confuse the shen, dulling the senses, emotions, memory, and cognitive abilities. Severe blockage is the basis of psychosis.
